Catherine Ann (Iles) Bechtel passed away October 15, 2020, following a short illness.
She married her best friend, Terry Bechtel, on June 5, 1981, in Joplin, Missouri.
A graduate of Golden City High School in 1968, Cathy went on to attend Missouri Southern State University. She was employed by Vocational Rehabilitation – Air Force Recruiting Office and Social Security Administration before she went on to open her own salon, Cosmo on the Boulevard. She owned the salon for 11 years before retiring as a homemaker.
Cathy served as the past President and Secretary of the Board Investment Club, was active in fundraisers for The Children’s Center and MDA in Joplin, and was a member of the Missouri Master Naturalist program. She was also a member of the Joplin Regional Art Coalition and Spiva.
Cathy was always active. She loved to travel, ride motorcycles with her husband, work in her yard and gardens, hike, kayak, carve stone sculptures, spend time by the pool with friends and family, and spend time with her dog, Bently. She was active in her loved one’s lives, and especially loved spending time with her granddaughters and great granddaughter.
Preceded in death by her son, Nathan Colson, and niece, Anna Iles,
Cathy is survived by her husband, Terry; son Garyn Colson of Joplin; Brother Dennis Iles (Gayla) of Cleveland, TN; Sister Linda Clemons (Randy) of Joplin; Sister Ronda Brown (Terry) of Rogers, AR; Brother Kevin Iles of Jasper, MO; Granddaughters Madison Parrigon (Tyler) of Joplin; Alyx Carroll (Joshua) of Springfield, MO; Taylor Colson, and Taryn Colson of Joplin. Great Granddaughter Noelle Parrigon. Five nephews and one niece.
Cremation is under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
A Celebration of Life for family and friends will be announced at a later date.
The family requests donations to be made to Golden Paw Pet Rescue in Joplin.
