Brenda Pelham-Boyd

Brenda A. Pelham-Boyd, age 58, passed away on Thursday October 29, 2020 at Mercy Hospital, following a one-month battle with Covid-19.

Brenda was born on September 28, 1962 in Joplin the daughter of Marvin and Carol (Coats) Roughton. She has been a lifetime area resident. She received her bachelor’s degree from MSSU. She had training in Dosimetry Radiation Therapy from Washburn University. She worked thirty-seven years as a certified Medical Dosimetrist for Mercy Hospital, retiring earlier this year. 

After retiring she worked as an independent dosimetry contractor and owned and operated Creation’s Inspired By Brenda. She was a member of Christ’s Community United Methodist Church where she was active in the Heartland Ecumenical Camino and the Alder’s Gate Programs. Brenda loved spending time with and spoiling her six grandchildren. She was a great fisherman and enjoyed making her decorative cups.








She married Richard Boyd on May 28, 2005 in Joplin and he survives. Together they raised their blended family. 

Also surviving are four sons, Ace Luke Pelham and fiancĂ© Monica Bailey, Webb City, MO, Reverend Christian Boyd and wife Karen, Waukesha, WI, and twins, Nathan Boyd and wife Chelle, Joplin, MO and Jarrod Boyd and wife Erin, Neosho, MO; one daughter, Karina Boyd, Ottawa, KS; her mother, Carol Roughton, Joplin, MO; one brother, Michael Roughton and wife Jennifer, Joplin, MO; one sister, Debbie Adkins, Diamond, MO; and six grandchildren, Kameron Boyd, Catlin Boyd, Patrick Boyd, Peyton Adamson, Riley Boyd, and Liam Adamson. 

She was preceded in death by her father Marvin Roughton.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Bob Dart will officiate. Burial will be in Burkhart Cemetery, Racine, MO. The family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Monday at Mason-Woodard Chapel.

It is especially important to the family that you honor Brenda by wearing a mask and practice social distancing.
