(From Parker Mortuary)Iris Jean Coons, age 90, Joplin, passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at National Health Care of Joplin.
Iris was born July 17, 1930 in Pryor, Oklahoma, daughter of the late Caryll “Karo” Rains and Lelia (Fisher) Rains. She grew up in Pryor and graduated from Pryor High School.
She married Dean Coons on July 23, 1951. The couple also made their home in Joplin that year. She was a stay-at-home wife who devoted herself to taking care of Dean. They enjoyed spending time together, and especially enjoyed their visits to Wyandotte.
Iris had a passion for fishing, eagles, Tweety Bird and the Kansas City Chiefs! She was a talented seamstress and a great cook-- desserts were her specialty! Iris was very proud of her Cherokee heritage and family. She loved keeping in touch with family and friends—she never missed sending a card to family and friends on birthdays and special occasions.
Iris had a beautiful smile and wonderful sense of humor. She was kind, caring, loving and a blessing to all.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by brothers, C.L. “Salty” Rains, John Rains, and her best friend and sister, Marie Gibson.
Along with her husband Dean, “Aunt Patsy” as her family knew her, is survived by several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the wonderful friends she and Dean have made over the years. She loved them and considered them family.
Graveside services will be Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Pryor, Oklahoma with Pastor Alan McCamey officiating.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Tuesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
