Edward Samocha

Edward Alexander Samocha, aged 96, passed away on April 7, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri. He was born on November 15, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Frank and Josephine Samocha.

After bravely serving his country in the Army during World War II, Edward returned home to embark on a career that would define much of his life. He found his calling in the field of Mechanical Aeronautical Engineering and retired from Teledyne in Neosho, Missouri in 1982.








Edward's heart was truly fulfilled when he met and married the love of his life, Elisabeth “Betty” Samocha. They were married on May 26, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan. Together, they built a family that became Edward's pride and joy. He was a devoted husband until Betty's passing in 2020. He was a loving father to his children: Joseph Samocha of Maryland Heights, MO, Sharon Ketchum of Joplin, MO, Kathleen Samocha-Edmondson of Grapevine, TX, and Rita Sabadell of Novato, CA. 

His legacy continues to flourish through his adored grandchildren: Kaitlin Samocha, Alexandr Samocha, Anastasia Howley, Gregor Samocha, Scott Ketchum, Schyler Ketchum, Shea Ketchum, Kyle Marshall, Chase Edmondson, Isabel Sabadell, Evan Sabadell, and his treasured great-grandchildren, Kyrie Howley, Wyatt Marshall, and Wesley Marshall.

Edward was involved with the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. This commitment led to a deep dedication and love of the fraternal organization by taking on a number of local, regional, and Missouri state level officer positions, along with being a part of the color guard for many years.








Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, and sister, Adele Janiga.

His life was a testament to the values of hard work, perseverance, and the importance of family. He will be missed by all who knew him.

A visitation will be held at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary on Friday, April 12, 2024 from 6:30 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., with rosary beginning at 7:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Joplin, MO. Arrangements are under the direct care of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
