Janet Hartzler

Janet L. Hartzler, age 74, of Rittman, died Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at her home near Rittman, following a period of declining health.

Janet was born on January 28, 1950, in Bay City, Michigan, to the late Richard and Juliet (Dotterer) Schlatter, graduated from Paulding High School in 1968, and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Defiance College. She married Dean E. Hartzler on June 20, 1971, at the Junction Apostolic Church in Paulding.






 

Janet was baptized February 6, 1966 in to the Junction Apostolic Church and was a current member of the Rittman Apostolic Church.

Surviving are her husband, Dean E. Hartzler; five children, Fred (Mindy) Hartzler of Ashland, Lynn Hartzler of Yellow Springs, Eric (Jami) Hartzler of Sardis, Shane (Suzanne) Hartzler of Rittman, and Jayna (Drew) Rupp of Sterling; 20 grandchildren, Shayleen (Jeriah) Riggenbach, Shila (fiancé Clay Shreve) Hartzler, Sheldon (fiancé Alexa Sapyta) Hartzler, Shaiden Hartzler, Shaw Hartzler, Angel (Emmaus) Rassi, Leah Hartzler, Grace Hartzler, Conrad Hartzler, Quincy Hartzler, Gideon Hartzler, Sylvia Hartzler, Carla Hartzler, Esther Hartzler, Titus Hartzler, Mya Hartzler, Mallory Hartzler, Mathias Hartzler, Austin Rupp, and Anne Rupp; four great grandchildren, Finley, Fitz, and Nora June Riggenbach, and Davis Rassi; six siblings, Bill (Emy) Schlatter of Defiance, Tim (Becky) Schlatter of Paulding, Dorothy (Gus - dec.) Dietrich of Lamar, MO, Marge Schlatter of Paulding, Ed (Cheryl) Schlatter of Paulding, and Denny (Laurie) Schlatter of Paulding; brother-in-law, David Manz of Paulding; sister-in-law, Sherri Schlatter of Forrest, IL; and numerous nieces and nephews.








In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Eldon Hartzler; and siblings, Kathy Manz and Mark Schlatter.

Services will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, at the Rittman Apostolic Christian Church, 10699 Steiner Road, Rittman, with ministers of the church officiating. Burial will take place at the Apostolic Cemetery in Rittman.




Friends may call on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm, or on Friday from 9:30 to 10:15 am at the church.
