Willa Suman

(From Clark Funeral Home)

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Willa Chloe (Cook) Suman on Monday, April 1, 2024, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. Born on October 1, 1931, in Montrose, Colorado, to Houston and Geneva (Allman) Cook, Willa's life was a testament to her strength, talent, and unwavering faith.

Willa's academic prowess shone brightly as she graduated Salutatorian from Granby High School on May 19, 1949. Her passion for music led her to the Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, Kansas, where she not only honed her self-taught piano skills but also shared them through teaching.

An avid traveler, Willa embarked on spiritual journeys from Missouri to California with close friends, attending and lending her musical talent to various revivals. It was upon returning to Joplin that she met her late husband, Harold Eugene Suman, who preceded her in death on January 13, 1996. Their union on May 3, 1957, marked the beginning of adventures that took them from Joplin to Arizona and California, where Willa made her mark professionally at Sears and later as a dedicated employee of Farmers Chemical Company, retiring in 1994.

Willa's devotion to her faith was evident in her lifelong commitment to the Apostolic Faith Church. As a talented pianist, she graced several local congregations with her music before becoming a cherished member of the Prosperity Apostolic Faith Church in Joplin. Her musical contributions enhanced countless church services until her health no longer permitted her attendance.

Willa was preceded in death by her loving parents, Houston and Geneva Cook; her sister, Faye Neff; and brothers-in-law, Charles Suman and Ned Neff. She leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by her son, Tyrone Suman; daughter, Teresa Horner; grandchildren, Aisha Horner (Chance Eads) and Brock Horner; sister, Shari Cook; dear family friend, Christina Clifford; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Willa's life was a symphony of faith, love, and music. Her memory will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. As we bid farewell to a remarkable woman, we take solace in knowing that her melody will echo in eternity.

Visitation to celebrate Willa's life will be held from 12:30 – 1:45 PM, Monday, April 8, 2024, at Clark Funeral Home Granby Chapel. Graveside service will follow the visitation at 2:00 PM at Granby Memorial Cemetery. Pastor Carroll Oakes will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Apostolic Faith Bible College in Baxter Springs, KS.
