Ginger Richardson

(From Simpson Funeral Home)

Virginia Sue Richardson, affectionately known as Ginger to her family and friends, passed peacefully on December 3, 2024. Born on June 17, 1942, in Carthage to Bennie and Lois Marsden, Ginger's life was marked by her generous spirit, unwavering dedication, and loving nature. Her loyalty to those she loved was a testament to her character, shaping her into a pillar of strength within her church and family.

Ginger's life journey took her to various places including Independence, KS, Noel and Carl Junction. She met her soulmate, Darrell Richardson, in school in her hometown of Carthage. They were married on March 9, 1963. Their love story, spanning over six decades, was a testament to Ginger's unwavering loyalty and dedication.

She served the community as a secretary for Dr. O'Keefe and Kessler's medical office in Joplin for over 20 years, retiring in 2010. Her professional life mirrored her personal life in terms of compassion, loyalty and selflessness. Ginger was also an active member of Forest Park for over 20 years, where she served through the church's Awana program with a servant's heart, embodying the Christian principle found in 1 Peter 4:10 (NIV), "Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God's grace in its various forms."

Ginger's faith was paramount in her life, guiding her actions and decisions. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She participated in bowling leagues throughout her younger years, and enjoyed bike rides with her kids.

Ginger is survived by her husband, Darrell Richardson; children Stephanie (Perry) Workman, Douglas (Barbara) Richardson, and Amy Blackford (Lee Chastain); grandchildren Jacob Workman, Garrett Richardson, Jessica Richardson, Eric Workman, Vance Richardson, Noah Blackford, Raegyn Blackford and Levi Chastain; and three great grandchildren Barrett, Zoey and Avianna Workman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Lois Marsden; a stillborn son Steven; a brother Danny; and sisters Barbara Jean Williams, Lavon Thompson, and Linda Lawson.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 2pm at the Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin with John Swadley officiating.

Services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home. The family encourages relatives and friends to visit www.simpsonfh.com to share photos and memories of Ginger. It is our hope that each memory shared will serve as a lasting tribute to Ginger's life and the profound impact she had on those around her.
