(From Parker Mortuary)Melba JoAnn Watson, age 88 of Galena, Kansas, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, January 5, 2025 following an extended illness. Melba was born December 22, 1936 in Carl Junction, Missouri to the late Delmer and Leona (Shafer) Battin.
Melba married LeRoy Watson on May 7, 1953 in Joplin and celebrated 57 years together before his passing 2011. During their marriage, Melba was an accomplished wife, mom, grandmother and friend to many. She worked as a forklift driver for 3M for 13 years and held other positions throughout the area. Melba was an avid quilter and loved to cook for all her family and friends. She would spend countless hours on the sewing machine or reading a book in her free time.
Melba is survived by her sons, Frank Watson (Renee) of Neosho, Kevin Watson (Jodi) of the State of Michigan; daughters, Kathy Holden of Galena and Tammy Campbell (Jay) of Joplin; sisters, Helen Gimlen of Carl Junction and Hope Triplett of Joplin; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Melba is preceded in death by her parents; husband, LeRoy; infant daughter, Vicki Watson; grandchild, Katrina Watson; and siblings, Jimmy and Wayne Battin, Phyllis Bender, Joyce Wilson, Billie Vaugn, Mertle Lawrence and Cecille England.
Family will receive friends on Friday, January 10, 2025 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary. After her visitation, Melba will be cremated and ashes will be buried at the Webb City Cemetery with her husband at a later date.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
