Wayne Dugan

(From Derfelt Funeral Home)

Forrest "Wayne" Dugan, age 65 of Baxter Springs, KS, passed away at his home in Baxter Springs on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

Wayne was born on August 6, 1959 to the union of Forrest "Frost" O. Dugan and Neva L. (Merrill) Dugan. He graduated from Galena High School with the Class of 1979, and spent all of his life in the Galena and Baxter Springs area. He worked in maintenance and welding at Eagle Picher, and later worked for the City of Galena.

He loved animals, a passion that he shared with his mother. He enjoyed time with his friends playing darts and going on drives, especially with his good friend Ernie Smith. Everyone knew that if he entered a room with a TV, no matter where he was, he was going to change the channel to whatever he wanted. His church home was at Fellowship Baptist in Baxter Springs, and he thoroughly enjoyed his time there with his church family.

He is survived by one daughter, Laricia Higinbotham (husband, Tory) of Joplin, MO; four granddaughters, Tiandra, Taygun, Laibrey, Lamyiah; four great-grandchildren, Tanella, Leyton, Trace, Thrasher; one sister, Sara Vaughn (husband, Rob) of Galena, KS; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest "Frost" and Neva Dugan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Fellowship Baptist Church in Baxter by mail at 1124 Kansas Ave, Baxter Springs, KS 66713.

  1. I worked with Wayne for many years at Eagle Picher. I never saw him angry or sad. He was always very upbeat. Sad to hear of him passing.
