(From Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home)George L. Royster, 80, Joplin, Missouri, loving husband and father, passed away Wednesday, January 22, 2025, peacefully at home after a battle with cancer. He spent his final days surrounded by his family that he loved deeply.
George was born on December 21, 1944, in La Russell, Missouri to Henry and Dorothy “Hill” Royster. He graduated from Miller High School in Miller, Missouri in 1962, and from Missouri Southern State College, Joplin, Missouri in 1972.
In 1964, George married the love of his life, Marie A. Hurst, and together they shared 60 beautiful years of marriage and raised three children. George dedicated himself to providing for his family, working at Ace Electric and Cardinal Scales, but his true passion was his construction company, Royster Homes. For over 30 years, he worked side by side with his son, Jeffrey, building custom homes.
A man of deep faith, George was devoted to his relationship with Jesus Christ and attended Central Christian Center in Joplin, Missouri. He often used his carpentry skills to serve family, friends, and neighbors. Always willing to lend a hand, George frequently went out of his way to help those in need. Known for his kind, gentle, and compassionate spirit, he loved his family above all else and would work tirelessly, from sunup to sundown, to ensure that everyone around him was taken care of.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dorothy Royster, his son, Brett Eugene Royster; four sisters, Violet Smith, Wynona Gambala, Josephine Sexton, and Dorlene Dunback; and one brother, Cecil Royster.
He is survived by his wife Marie (Hurst) Royster; his children, Jeffery Royster (Lana) of Galena, Kansas, and Zoie Russell (Robert) of Joplin, Missouri; five grandchildren, Cameron Royster (Amanda), Caitlyn Moss (Evan), Zachary Flock, Konner Flock, and Bailey Flock; three great grandchildren, Cora Royster, Ellie and Nora Moss; five sisters, Shirley Marian, Arlene Smith (Huey), Osa Mae Martin, Cora Boggs (Mitchell), and Doris West (Ray); and a host of nieces and nephews.
