(From Yarber Funeral Home)Kevin Lee Ray, a loving husband, devoted father and grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away on April 10, 2025, at the age of 64. Born and raised in Joplin, Missouri, Kevin was a lifelong resident who poured his heart into his family, his work, and the things he loved.
A dedicated employee of Mid-America Precision Products (formerly Eagle Pitcher) since 1980, Kevin was known for his strong work ethic, mechanical genius, and generous spirit.
On February 16, 1980, Kevin married the love of his life, Melanie Ray. Their bond was deep, unwavering, and full of joy. She was his best friend, his steady light, and the center of his entire universe. Together, they built a beautiful life filled with nature walks, laughter, and quiet moments that meant everything.
Kevin was a proud father to three daughters, Amber O’Dougherty (husband, Anthony), April Burt (significant other, Gregory Kelley), and Ashley Richardson (husband, Jake). He embraced fatherhood with open arms by cheering from the sidelines, supporting every dream, and making their world better just by being in it. His grandchildren, Mason Ray and Ella Jane O’Dougherty, brought him boundless joy and pride.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shirley (Riggs) Ellis and Richard Ray, and his brother, Steven Ray.
A self-taught mechanic, Kevin rebuilt classic 1970s Firebirds with nothing but salvaged parts and good friends by his side. As “Revin,” he spent weekends racing at Mo-Kan Speedway, chasing speed and joy. He took an early interest in computers and built powerful machines before the internet became mainstream. He had since become a beloved presence in multiple online communities where he was a cherished friend and father figure, someone whose kindness and wisdom left a lasting impact on countless others across the world.
Kevin never met a stranger. He had a gift for connection, a legendary sense of humor, and a heart as sweet as a cupcake. Whether he was cracking a dad joke, talking trains, watching sci-fi films, or simply sitting beside his wife under the stars, he radiated warmth. He was a true girl dad, a joyful soul, and a steady presence in the lives of those he loved.
He is now on his journey toward the Final Frontier, where he will spread his love, positivity, and enduring camaraderie and forever living among the stars as he enters the undiscovered country.
