O. D. Blue

Otis D. Blue, age 89, Joplin, passed away on Monday, August 25, 2025 at a local hospital with family at his side.

O.D. was born February 11, 1936 in Lanes Chapel, TX, son of the late Otis Austin Blue and Vera Mary (Vickery) Blue. He grew up in Texas, and graduated from Moshime High School. He went to work for the railroad working in the telegraph department for a while before marrying Peggy Binns in 1959. He was then in the United States Army where he served for two years before returning to Texas where he attended the University of Texas in Arlington receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Business. 






He worked in a couple of locations working in the battery industry before moving to Joplin in 1965 where he owned Battery Warehouse which he did for several years before selling the business and going to work in auto sales. He worked for several locations in the Joplin area selling automobiles and was very appreciated by many for helping them find the right car. He was very successful in this field over the years.

He was an avid supporter of Missouri Southern State University where he was a member of the Lionbackers. He was a member of the Briarbrook Country Club where he played as often as possible. He was also a member of the Joplin Optimist Club. He touched many lives over the years through his charitable work or his sales; he will be missed by many.

In addition to his parents, O.D. was preceded in death by two sisters, Penny Blue and Mickey Blue.








Survivors include his wife, Beverly J. Blue, whom he married March 22, 1979; two sons, Stephen Blue and wife Gail of Joplin, and Brent Blue also of Joplin; grandchildren, Evan Blue of St. Cloud, MN, and Anna Blue of Kansas City, MO; step daughters, Deborah Gashette and husband Kenneth of Carl Junction, MO, Pamela Lewis of FL; several step grandchildren; a brother, Charlie Blue and wife Judy of Clinton, TX.

The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Friday, August 29, 2025 from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. in Osborne Memorial Cemetery with Pastor Michael Pierce officiating.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Missouri Southern Scholarship Fund.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
