Pat Pennell

Patricia "Pat" Ann (Hanna) Pennell, age 80 of El Dorado Springs, MO passed away Friday, October 29, 2021 surrounded by family at home. She had recently been diagnosed with cancer and was fighting it for the second time. She was a breast cancer survivor in 2011.She was definitely no stranger with more than her share of serious health issues in the past 40 years. She diligently fought everything from congestive heart failure to diabetes but never let it keep her from loving and enjoying life to its fullest.

Pat was the daughter of Thomas Hanna and Rosina "Mickey"(Perry) Hanna. She was born April 01, 1941 in Leeds, England and later got her citizenship and proudly became an American. 

She attended rural school in the area and high school in Golden City, MO. She then returned to school in her 40's and earned her Master's degree in Science in Education, graduating in 1986 from CMSU in Warrensburg, MO. She married Harold "Nick" Pennell in 1957 and although they divorced in 1974 they remained lifelong friends. Three children were born from this union.

Pat enjoyed fishing and nature, where she said she felt closer to God. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking, writing poetry, and working hard. Family and friends were foremost in her life and she could always be found planning events to get together. Her zest for life was an inspiration to everyone. She will be greatly missed and always in our hearts.

She was preceded in death by her parents, lifelong friend, Nick Pennell, her son, Lester Pennell, two grandsons; Gary Danner and Luke Mefford, sister, Arlene Calhoun and love of her life, Gene Hoskins.

She is survived by two daughters; Tammy Elliot and husband Earl Elliott of Osceola, MO. and Lisa Pennell of Tiffin Township. Grandsons; Thomas Pennell & family, Nicholas Pennell & family, William Pennell & family, Joseph Pennell & family, Matt Mefford & family, Christopher Miller & family, and Chad Parsons & Family. Granddaughters; Trisha Starks & family, Ashley Sanning & family , Robyn Sanning & family, Duran Miranda & family, Crystal Holtsclaw & family and Tesla Parsons & family. Brother, Roy Hanna, Sisters; Iola French and husband, Jon French, Terri Hanna and Chris Hanna and brother in law, Mick Calhoun, numerous great grandchildren and nephews and nieces, also her furbaby, Scrappy.

Sheryl Weaver

Sheryl Weaver, 78, Joplin, Missouri, passed away Saturday, October 30, 202, at her home. She was born on September 29, 1943, in Crane, Missouri, the daughter of the late Joe F. Williams and Mary Maxine (Willis) Williams. 

Sheryl graduated from Carthage High School, and then attended Joplin Junior College, and East Texas Baptist College. 

She married Marvin Weaver Jr. on February 28, 1964, in Lamar, Missouri, he preceded her in death on July 17, 1999. 

Sheryl was a sales associate for Famous Barr, a member of Waples United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School, a member of the Lydia Group, a charter member of Texoma and Denison Lioness clubs, receiving the Governor’s award, and was a past president of the Denison Lioness Club.

Sheryl is survived by her son Joe Weaver (Dinah), Denison, Texas. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Shannon Williams.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday November 3, 2021, at the Liberal City Cemetery, Liberal, Missouri. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortury.com. Arrangements are under the personal care of Knell Mortuary.

Janet Edwards

Janet Sue Edwards 58, Sarcoxie, MO passed away on October 26, 2021 due to injuries sustained in a car accident.

She was born April 18, 1963 to Walter (Slim) & Betty Edwards.

Janet loved her family, people, sports & the great outdoors! She frequently would beseen at the Sarcoxie Bears sporting events. Her loud whistle will be missed! She loved to watch all of her grandchildren in all their activities from choir, archery, volleyball, softball etc. She was their biggest & loudest fan!

Her life was a living example of the protocol daughter & most giving soul! She was the clay in The Potter's hands. She loved attending Center Point Church Carthage, MO with her grandchildren, Eden Sims & Emma Sims, & her partner in crime Joyce Maggard also! She loved her church family!

She worked at several area factories over the years. Her Dad instilled in her to never have idle hands & always do it right the first. Most recently she was a very compassionate Home Health Care Giver. She was loved by her clients.

Janet is survived by her children Alicia Herd (Justin) of Tulsa, OK, Misty Thompson Sarcoxie, MO, Gregory Thompson Sarcoxie, MO, 2 grandchildren her pride & joy Eden Sims Avilla, MO & Emma Sims Sarcoxie, Mo. Three brothers Joe Edwards (Gayla) Webb City, MO, Jerry Edwards (Sandy) Sarcoxie, MO, Jackson Edwards (Pat) Carthage, MO, three sisters Joyce Maggard, Jennie Edwards, Jeanie Root all of Sarcoxie, MO, sister-n-law Lucille Edwards Rigby Idaho & a host of family & friends.

She was preceded in death by her Mom Betty Edwards, Dad Walter (Slim) Edwards Jr.,one brother Jim Edwards, mother-n-law Clara Thompson Grandmother-n-law Lea Pringle, Grandma Jennie, & Grandpa Hugh Reynolds, Grandma Josie & Grandpa Walter Edwards, two nephews Kevin Edwards & Jareb Edwards, two nieces Megan Root & Stephanie McNamara & a brother-n-law Adam Root.

A celebration of Janet's life will be November 6, 2021 with Pastor Kelly Ross officiating. It will start at 10:00 am at Center Point Christian Church 11995 Co Rd 80 Carthage, Mo. Carolyn Bukowich

Carolyn S. Bukowich, age 85, of Neosho, Missouri, entered into rest on Oct. 30, 2021, at her home in Neosho. Carolyn was born July 28, 1936, to Beverly and Edith Stauffer in Detroit, Michigan; she moved to Neosho in 1950. 

After graduating from Neosho High School in 1954, she did secretarial work for the United Methodist Church and District Welfare Office. 

She married Frederick F. Bukowich on March 30, 1957 and spent the next seven years traveling three-state area every two weeks as Fred was a relief manager for Western Union. After settling in Lawrence, Kansas (1964-2001), Carolyn spent fourteen years providing in-home childcare, followed by fifteen years of employment at Wal-Mart.

She felt fortunate to "return home to Neosho" upon retirement in 2001. Carolyn's spiritual legacy is strong – a lifelong Bible student, servant, encourager, and active member of the Church of Christ. Family ties were significant, and she considered the grandchildren her "special pride and joy." She enjoyed reading and sharing books, baking in big batches, and traveling.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 64 years, Fred; two daughters, Luanne Waterman, and husband, Larry of New York, and Gretchen Tannehill and husband, Wade, of Ohio; four grandchildren, Glen Waterman and wife, Sarah, Sara Rinkus and husband, Michael, Justin Tannehill, and Erin Tannehill; one brother, Karl Stauffer of Kansas, and one sister, Anita Hinman and husband, Mike of Neosho.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 6, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. at the Hillcrest Church of Christ. Interment will follow in the Stone Cemetery. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation Friday evening from 5:00-6:30 p.m. at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho. Billy Burrington

Billy Moyer Burrington, age 80, of Warrensburg passed away Friday, October 29, 2021.

He was born January 18, 1941 in Warrensburg the son of Freddie Fairbanks and Doris Leah (Moyer) Burrington, Jr.

(Note: Mr. Burrington was a former counselor in the Sarcoxie R-2 School District)

He is survived by his son John (Samantha) Burrington, his daughter Anne Mann, three grandsons, and a great-granddaughter.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 5, 2021 at Sweeney-Phillips & Holdren Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Sunset Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time.

Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and can be left in care of the funeral home.

Garl Williams

Garl Gene Williams, Sr., age 67, passed away at 3:16 a.m. on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at his home. He was born April 25, 1954, in Gas City, Indiana, the son of the late Oren Honaker and Emma Jane (Brocinni) Williams. Garl loved to go fishing and spending time with his family.

He is survived by three children, Garl Gene Williams, Jr., Oren Williams and Starla Williams; three sisters, Sammy Williams, Susan Marriott, and Jenna Pear; sixteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and the mother of his children, Rebecca Myers. 

In addition to his parents, his sister Murphy Pisano preceded him in death.

Local arrangements have been conducted by the Clark Funeral Home. No services are planned at this time.

James Smith

James Lloyd Smith was born November 27, 1933, in Neosho, Missouri, one of seven children to Seabern N. and Athel (Payton) Smith. He entered into rest on October 28, 2021, at the age of 87. 

James was a lifelong area resident and had worked for the Newton County Road District, City of Neosho, Lime Kiln Rock Quarry and Long Bell in Joplin. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking care of his cattle and chickens and dancing at the local hootenannies. He was of the Baptist Faith. 

James is survived by three children, James Smith of Neosho, Peggy Herrin and husband, Allen of Neosho and Brenda Friend and husband, Ronald of Granby; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and nine great- great-grandchildren. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Betty Ferguson, the mother of his children, Betty Smith, five sisters and one brother. 

Funeral services will be held on Nov. 3, 2021, at 1 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Dr. Jerry Seigel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gibson Cemetery, Neosho. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation, Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
