(From Clark Funeral Home)James Lloyd Smith was born November 27, 1933, in Neosho, Missouri, one of seven children to Seabern N. and Athel (Payton) Smith. He entered into rest on October 28, 2021, at the age of 87.
James was a lifelong area resident and had worked for the Newton County Road District, City of Neosho, Lime Kiln Rock Quarry and Long Bell in Joplin. James enjoyed fishing, hunting, taking care of his cattle and chickens and dancing at the local hootenannies. He was of the Baptist Faith.
James is survived by three children, James Smith of Neosho, Peggy Herrin and husband, Allen of Neosho and Brenda Friend and husband, Ronald of Granby; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-five great-grandchildren and nine great- great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Betty Ferguson, the mother of his children, Betty Smith, five sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be held on Nov. 3, 2021, at 1 pm at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Dr. Jerry Seigel will officiate. Interment will follow in the Gibson Cemetery, Neosho. The family will receive friends at a time of visitation, Tuesday evening from 5:30 to 6:30 pm at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
