Jack and Opal Hames

Opal “Pokey” Louise Hames, 75, of Goodman, Missouri, daughter to the late Clyde Trammel and Alice (Lacey) Laughlin, was born on Friday, May 24, 1946, in Chanute, Kansas. She passed away shortly after her husband, on Monday, November 15, 2021, at her home, with her loving family by her side.

Otis “Jack” Irvin Hames, 82, of Goodman, Missouri, son of the late Otis Homer Hames and Wanda (Booe) Hames, was born on Thursday, February 16, 1939, in Goodman, Missouri. He passed away on Tuesday, November 9, 2021, at his home, with his loving family by his side.








“Jack”, a life-long resident of Goodman, Missouri, enjoyed life on the farm, fishing, and most importantly, spending time with his family. He was a hard worker, drilling wells for farms in the area for most of his life. He was known for his good sense of humor, always putting a smile on the face of those around him. He loved baseball and spent a lot of time playing with his family and friends. His acts of kindness, generosity, and passion for family and friends will never be forgotten.

“Pokey”, a life-long resident of McDonald County, Missouri, was known for her gift of cooking, especially pie, and her “fiery” personality. She worked in nursing homes, preparing food for the residents. She enjoyed fishing, playing bingo, and most importantly spending time with her family. She was a kind, loving and generous woman, never turning away a stranger.

They were united in marriage on October 10, 1963 and together they have shared the last fifty-eight years.

Jack and Opal are preceded in death by their parents; her step father, Cleo Laughlin; his two brothers, Roscoe and Frankie Hames; their nephews, John Wesley Love and Kenneth Ray Hames Jr.; his brother-in-law, Raymond Love; her three siblings, Doris Smith, Hazel Thurman, and Jack Trammel; and their grandson, Dewane Martin Jr.

They are survived by their daughters, Janet Smith and husband, Joe, of Goodman, Missouri, Jerri Martin and husband, Dewane, of Neosho, Missouri, Jackie Carver and husband, Brian, of Garfield, Arkansas, Sheila Denmark and husband, Rick, of Neosho, Missouri; his brothers Kenny Hames and wife Judy, of Neosho, Missouri, Donald Hames and wife, Donna, of Neosho, Missouri, John Hames and wife, Kathy, of Neosho, Missouri; his sisters, Betty Love of Neosho, Missouri, Kay Tuggle and husband, Laverne, of Goodman, Missouri; Opal’s siblings, Vern Laughlin and his wife, Gloria, of Hiwasse, Arkansas, Gladys Self, of Centerton, Arkansas, Jean Testerman, of Anderson, Missouri, and Edna Mitchell of La Russel, Missouri; their grandchildren, Trent Smith, Amanda Suhay, Dale Martin, Lucinda Carver, Nathan Carver, Darcy Denmark, Shane Denmark, and Emily Denmark; seven great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as a host of family and friends who will miss them very much.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 18, 2021, from 5-7:00 p.m. at Ozark Funeral Home, in Anderson, Missouri. Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home, in Anderson, Missouri with Pastor Mark Willis officiating. Burial will follow at the Howard Cemetery, in Goodman, Missouri. Those honoring their lives by serving as pallbearers are Joe Smith, Dewane Martin, Brian Carver, Rick Denmark, Trent Smith, Nathan Carver, and Shane Denmark; with Dale Martin serving as honorary pallbearer.
