(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Michael Dennis Keyser, age 71, passed away at 6:20 am, Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at his home following a sudden illness.
Mike was born June 18, 1950 in Joplin, MO. His parents were Herman L and Mary Ellen (Chase) Keyser. Though he had lived in New York and Ohio, Galena was home to him most of his life.
Mike was a graduate of Galena High School with the class of 1968, and a graduate of Pittsburg State University with the class of 1998, earning a degree in Biology. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Galena and attended faithfully with his family.
For many years, Mike worked at Gulf Chemical. After his time there, he supported his family through various means, including auto mechanics, carpentry, and landscaping. He was truly a jack-of-all-trades! Though he loved reading and spending time outside, his proudest accomplishments were being a beloved father and grandfather. He always made sure his grandkids had a sweet treat while at “Dupaw’s” house. Mike was also a survivor of cancer and attributed this to his faith in God.
Surviving is one son, Chase Keyser (Valerie), Loma Linda; two daughters, Amber Spencer (Travis), Carl Junction, MO, and Autumn Murphy (William), Ballston Spa, NY; his mother, Mary Ellen Keyser, Galena; two brothers, Mark Keyser, Galena and Mitchell Keyser (Donna), Indiana; one sister, Jona Newman, Galena; and 9 grandchildren: Aubrey, Aidan, Brock, Grace, Adalynn, Collin, Ronan, Brooklynn, and Clayton.
He was preceded in death by his father, and one brother, Stephen Keyser.
Mike was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS for cremation. A Celebration of Life will be held at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 23rd, at 10:00 a.m.
