Ellie Flanigan

(From Knell Mortuary)

Eleanor W. “Ellie” Flanigan passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, May 8, 2017. Ellie was born September 22, 1924 in Sedalia, MO to the late Henry L. White and Eula (Leslie)White. She graduated from Carthage High School, Class of 1941, where she met her future husband. She married Laurence H. “Hop” Flanigan on February 22, 1945 in Carthage; and completed a B.A. in English at the University of Missouri in May 1945. At MU she belonged to social sorority Delta Delta Delta, for which she wrote many recommendations for future students. She was a long-time member of Grace Episcopal Church.

Ellie was a pillar of her family and the proud mother of five very active children, all graduates of the University of Missouri. She was a faithful member of P.E.O., Shakespeare Society, Tri-Cosmos Club, St. Martha’s Altar Guild; and also a charter member of Broadview Country Club as well as a long-time volunteer at Grace Church’s Nearly New Shop. She was a generous woman who was lovingly called “Aunt Ellie” by many -- not just the nieces and nephews of her extended family.

Survivors include two sons: J. Patrick Flanigan (Hildy), Leawood, KS; Thomas C. Flanigan (Anita), Carthage; three daughters: Margaret Flanigan Brunkhorst (Steve), Chesterfield, MO; Katherine Flanigan White (Chet), Jefferson City, MO; and Susan Flanigan, St. Louis, MO; one brother, Les White (Noemi), Pembroke Pines, FL. Also surviving are eight grandchildren Greg Brunkhorst (Nicole); Stacey Taylor (Matt); Elizabeth Cook (Jeb); Kathleen Rhoads (William); Will Flanigan (Maggie); Carolyn McKee (Will); Charles White; Christina White; plus six great-grandchildren Madison, Elise, and Max Taylor; and Barrett, Lincoln, and Finley Faye Cook.

Ellie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and baby Anne.
