Valerie Myers

(From Parker Mortuary)

Never one to withhold her opinion or live life anyway but fearlessly, Valerie Susan Blunk-Myers took the highway to heaven on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2017. Doctors gave her one year to live and she proved them wrong. She was diagnosed with small-cell lung cancer in November, 2015.

Valerie waited until her family was gathered around her before she gained the peace she so richly deserved. She lived her life just as she died—on her own terms.

Born to Joanne Roberson Blunk and James Roland Blunk on August 25, 1963 in Joplin, MO, Valerie always took pride in being the largest child her mother delivered, and also the loudest.

Valerie traveled throughout the United States befriending as many people as only she could. Her sense of humor, tenacity, and love of life were only outshone by her love of family.

Valerie is survived by her three children Brandy Ashleigh Blunk, and Colt Blunk, both of Joplin, and Matthew Myers (Candace) of Anderson, as well as sisters Karole (Gene) Robertson of Enid, OK, Peggy (Bill) Parolin of Parkville, MO, Michelle (Howard) Trusk of Hurricane, Utah, and brother, Justin Cummings of Joplin. She was blessed with eight grandchildren, numerous loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.

To further the search for finding a cure for small cell cancer, Valerie donated her body to science.

A celebration of life event will take place at Parker Mortuary in Joplin, MO on Wednesday, May 17 from 6-7 pm. Please join us in celebrating our beloved mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
