Bonnie Thomas

Bonnie Lee Thomas, age 90, Joplin, passed away at 7:25 a.m. Sunday, January 6, 2019 at a local nursing center after an illness.

Bonnie was born December 6, 1928 in Marked Tree, Arkansas to the late Luther M. Emmons and Frances Elizabeth Hosea Emmons and had lived in Joplin most of her life.

Bonnie attended grade school in Turrell, Arkansas; Hulbert High School in West Memphis, Arkansas and finished her education at Missouri Southern College in Joplin. She worked at the University of Missouri-Columbia as the supervisor of the microfilm lab from 1950-1953. For thirty three years, she was a custom drape maker at Sam's Drapery Shop. Bonnie also worked in the bakery at the former Skaggs Alpha Beta grocery store, SoFro and Cloth World. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Joplin and enjoyed quilting. Bonnie will be missed by all who knew her.

She married E.V. Thomas, Jr. on December 15, 1946 in Hernando, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on October 25, 1988.

Bonnie was also preceded in death by a son, Robert V. Thomas on December 8, 2018.


Survivors include her children, Binkie Brown and her husband, Jim, St. Charles, Missouri, Charles E. Thomas, Buffalo, Missouri, Kathy L. DeMint and husband, Art, Joplin, Ginger Gardner and husband, Brian, Joplin; a sister, Mary Isele, West Memphis, Arkansas; six grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

Bonnie has been taken for cremation. She will be buried alongside her husband at the Springfield Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Missouri.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
