Larry Bernot

Larry Lou Bernot, 79, of rural Pittsburg, went to be with the Lord at 7:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family following a short illness.

He was born March 17, 1939 at Pittsburg, the son of Louie and Frances (Zagar) Bernot. In 1948, he moved to Hartford, Kentucky. He graduated from Harford, Kentucky High School in 1957, then returned to rural Pittsburg, where he engaged in farming.

On November 11, 1960, he was united in marriage to Janice Wilkerson at the First United Methodist Church in Pittsburg. She survives at the family home.

Larry joined the US Army Reserves in July 1962 and served until 1968.

In addition to farming, he began a registered Charolais operation in 1980. Among his hobbies were attending auctions, hunting, and fishing. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren filled with stories, fun and laughter.

He was a member and was baptized in the Harford United Methodist Church and attended the Beulah Community Church.



In addition to his wife, Janice, he is survived by his children, Brenda (David) Waugh of rural Pittsburg, Carla (James) Lewis of rural Cherokee, Brent (Tracy) Bernot of rural Cherokee and Kim Bernot of Joplin, Missouri; eleven grandchildren, Jennifer, Joshua (Shelbea), Jamie, Kyle, Kaytlyn (Seth), Taylor, Chad, Travis (Taylor), Trent, Evan, and Jayda and 2 great-granddaughters, Allison and Kennedy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his step-mother, Madelyn Tichenor Bernot, and a special aunt and uncle, Ann and Ray Spriggs.

Service for Mr. Bernot is set for 10:00 a.m., Monday (Jan. 14) at the Brenner Mortuary, with Rev. Jamie Tickel officiating. Burial will follow in the Girard City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Brenner Mortuary, where friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Sunday. The family suggests memorials to the Ronald McDonald House.
