Dr. Carol Littrell Luhn (Ost ), 93, of Pineville, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at her Big Sugar Creek residence with her loving family by her side.
Carol was born in St. Louis, Missouri to the late, Carl and Ruth (Bainum) Schoen. She lived her early years in the Bainum family home in Ft. Scott, Kansas with her beloved grandfather, “Bompie”. When Dink Littrell came into Ruth’s life they moved to Coffeyville, Kansas, where she learned to love horses, football, cards, the outdoors and adventure.
During World War II, inspired by the Women’s Airforce Service Pilots (WASPs), Carol joined the Civil Air Patrol, and learned to fly, soloing in 1945.
As an undergraduate at the University of Arkansas immediately after World War II, she helped to reopen the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority, where she made many lifelong friends. After graduation, Carol married Nolan Luhn in Coffeyville, Kansas, spending their first year in Green Bay, Wisconsin where he played his final year for the Green Bay Packers. The Luhns eventually returned full time to their farm in Coffeyville, and along the way came son, David and daughter, Chrissie.
In 1963, Carol moved her two children to Fayetteville, Arkansas where she earned her Master’s Degree in Guidance and Counseling and Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology. In 1967, initially as an intern at Western Missouri Mental Health Center in Kansas City, Carol began her professional psychological career. Carol became a highly regarded psychologist, building a private practice and conducting workshops throughout the greater Kansas City area and beyond. Carol incorporated various elements of different psychological methods into her practice including Gestalt and Transactional Analysis.
In 1972, Carol married Dr. Mark D. Ost and his six children. She lived very happily in her wonderful Black Swan Lake home in Shawnee, Kansas until she moved with Mark to their retirement Pineville “cabin” in 2005.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Dr. Mark Dean Ost; her parents, Carl Schoen, Ruth and Warren "Dink" Littrell, a sister Melissa Ann Littrell, and two stepsons, Christopher and Daniel Ost.
Carol is survived by her two children, David Luhn and his wife, Kathy; daughter Dr. Christina Luhn, and Emily (Ost) Akers and husband, Jared; Kevin Ost and wife Connie; Lisa (Ost) Lasker; Jeff Ost and wife Ranae; and fifteen amazing grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Share with us a celebration of Carol’s life, and what a life, on Saturday, January 5, 2019 from 12:00 to 1:00 p.m. at the Anderson Chapel of the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, MO. Interment will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 7, 2019 at the Fairview Cemetery in Coffeyville, Kansas.
