John Charles Barnes, 101, of Neosho, entered into rest on January 8, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, following a short illness.
John was born December 27, 1917 in Newtonia, Missouri. Following his graduation from high school, he was accepted in the CCC. He served in the U.S. Army, 302 Hound Dogs and following his honorable discharge, he relocated to California where he did his graduate work at UC Berkley. He worked as director of probation for Contra Costa County in California and in 1976, returned to Neosho.
John and Noreen (Kimbo) were married on Feb. 4, 1961 in Gardnerville, NV and she survives of the home.
Additional survivors are two sons, Thomas (Karen) Barnes of Denver, CO and David (Julie) Barnes and granddaughter, Mya Barnes of St. Louis, MO; two children from a prior union, John (Shirley) Barnes, Jr. and family of Lodi, CA and Barbara (Mike) Polk and family of Boise, ID. He is preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters and a grandson. We will miss his love, wisdom and gentle sense of humor.
At John’s request, he will be cremated and no services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in his memory be made to the Shriner’s Hospital or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, c/o Clark Funeral Home, P. O. Box 66, Neosho, Missouri 64850.
