Joan Detherage

(From Brown-Winters Funeral Home)

Joan (Lawson) Detherage, 89, went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, August 3, 2024, at her home.

Joan was born on September 12, 1934, in Stella, MO to John Riley and Gertrude (Cooper) Lawson. She graduated from Joplin High School in 1952.

Joan married the love of her life, Tom Detherage on November 3, 1951, in Huntsville, AR. They were happily married for 72 years. They bought their farm in 1958 and moved to Fairland, OK in 1963.
Joan was a loving wife and mother. She was active in many organizations in the community and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairland, OK. She worked at several different locations throughout her working years. Joan loved the Lord. She loved her family, especially her kids and grandkids; she was their biggest cheerleader, always the one behind the camera and so proud of them all. Joan loved all things purple, eagles, redbirds, flowers, game shows, sports and most of all her scenic tours with Tom. She always gave the warmest hugs, and she was an exceptional cook.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Tom Detherage Sr. of the home. Two sons, Tom Detherage Jr. and wife Nettie, Jay Detherage and wife Sadie and one daughter, Debbie May and husband Mark. Six grandchildren; Christie Jackson, Matt Detherage, Erin Detherage, Chelsea Scott, Courtney May and Katie Detherage. Nine great-grandchildren, Justin Jackson, Kaci Jackson, Emily Jackson, Austin Jackson, Dalton Detherage, Destry Detherage, Stockton Scott, Blazelee Scott and Maverick Scott; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland.

Services will be 10:00 AM on Friday, August 9, 2024 at Brown-Winters Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Fairland. Interment will follow at the Hickory Grove Cemetery.
