(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Teddy A. Garrison 78, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, April 27, 2025 at Mercy Maude Norton Columbus Hospital. He was born December 24th to his parents, Boyd (Buck) D. Garrison and Dorothy J. (Griggeory) Garrison at Maude Norton Memorial Hospital.
Ted attended Columbus Public Schools from Kindergarten through graduation in 1964. In high school he played football his freshman year and Baseball his Senior year, he also was a member of the K-Club.
Growing up he enjoyed adventures up and down Brush Creek with his brother and their friends. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and frogging. As he got older, he enjoyed playing Fast Pitch and Slo-Pitch Softball. He coached a youth baseball team. In February 1968 he was on the board that applied for membership in Babe Ruth League Baseball. On July 20th, 2018 Columbus 13 and under Babe Ruth Baseball celebrated their 50th year when the 13 YO State Tournament was held on Bomber Field at the Community Field Ball Park. Ted was honored to throw out the ball to start the tournament and was given the ball signed by the players and coaches. He told his wife that when he dies that the ball and the Charter Application are to be given to the Columbus Museum.
Ted worked in the grocery business many years and made many friends working with the public and training many young people who worked in the store. When he left the grocery business, he then worked for Calibrated Forms until his retirement.
Ted married Ruth Kelley in 1964 and to this union his daughter Cherie and son Ronnie were born. He and Ruth later divorced.
Ted and Linda (Shaw) Ketcher married July 17th, 1981 and were blessed to be married for 43 years. They enjoyed taking trips to Branson with his children and Linda’s son Mike. After retirement from their jobs, Ted and Linda enjoyed going on bus trips. They went with a tour group to Ireland and oh, my what a wonderful time!
Ted discovered golf at the Columbus Country Club and fell in love! He really enjoyed playing golf with his buddies and on one Fourth of July Ted got his first and only hole-in-one at the Columbus Country Club.
Ted was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and helped with the Food Ministry several summers. He enjoyed seeing and visiting with those who came by to get produce and groceries, unfortunately Covid ended the ministry.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents Boyd and Dorothy Garrison, sister Diana (Garrison) Cook, nephew James Garrison and stepson Mike Ketcher.
In addition to his wife survivors include a daughter Cherie Garrison (Carthage, MO) son Ronnie Garrison (Branson, MO) brother; Francis Garrison (Martha) Columbus, KS, nephews; Clark Garrison (Susan), Brian Cook (Shannon), Robbie Cook (Leanna) and several great-nieces and nephews, cousins, bonus daughter Tina Dingess, along with many wonderful friends. He was a “people person” and gave the best hugs.
Visitation will be held at the Derfelt Funeral Home in Columbus, KS on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm followed by Memorial Service at 1 pm. You are welcome to wear your red and gold colors. Ted loved the Columbus Titians and Kansas City Chiefs.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, American Cancer Association, Dream Big Little Ones or Charity of your choice.
Funeral services are under the direction of the Derfelt Funeral Home, Columbus.
