Tommy Jones

Tommy Lee Jones, 89, of Joplin, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Tommy was born June 3, 1931, in New Mexico, to the union of the late Harry and Sylvia Jones. Following school, Tommy served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean War and achieved the rank of Corporal. 

 Tommy enjoyed the outdoors and spending time hunting and fishing. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always took advantage of every opportunity to spoil them. Tommy will be remembered for his love of hosting Easter gatherings at his home, his generosity and his love for all people. Tommy loved the Lord and was a member of Central Christian Center in Joplin.








On June 5, 1961, Tommy was united in marriage to Leona Watkins and together they shared 49 years of marriage before her passing on July 14, 2010. 

 He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Karissa Amber Nolan, and four siblings, Billie French, Norma Jean Sadler, Betty Wilson and Bobby Jones.

Survivors include his children, Steven Jones (Susan) of Carl Junction, Mary Ann Lankford (Gary) of Carl Junction, Thomas Jones of Joplin, Mark Jones of Joplin, Mike Jones of Joplin, and Tim Jones (Rachel) of Pittsburg, Kansas; 17 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; three siblings, Evelyn Allen, JoAnn McMullen and Jim Jones; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday, October 12, 2020, in chapel of Parker Mortuary with Pastor Hank Deslatte and Pastor Doug Wilkerson officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 6-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions can be made to Central Christian Center in care of the mortuary. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
