Alva Hood

Alva H. Hood, 93, of Jasper, passed away April 3, 2021.

Alva was born March 15, 1928 in Stotts City, Missouri to the late Lee Alva and Hazel Ida (Sanders) Hood. He graduated from Carl Junction High School. Alva served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Alva worked for Eagle-Picher for 15 years and was instrumental in developing the steward union. He later worked for Farmers Chemical as a batchman, retiring in 1996. 








Alva farmed livestock and also operated his own mechanic and welding shop, Hood Mechanical and Welding, in Neck City. He was the biggest St. Louis Cardinals fan and also enjoyed watching football when the KC Chiefs were playing. Alva loved to tinker around in his shop to pass the time. Alva was a proud member of the American Legion and formerly attended Purcell Baptist Church.

On June 22, 1967, Alva was united in marriage to Evelyn Earlene Threadgill and she preceded him in death in April 2009.

In addition to his parents and wife, Alva was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Dale Hood; two sisters, Lucille Camp and Maxine Carlson; and a step-son, Larry Cawyer.

Survivors include his children and step-children, Ed Cawyer (Vickie) of Oronogo, Missouri, Nancy Neil of Northwest Arkansas, Wiley Cawyer (Thelma) of Liberal, Missouri, Lavetta Phillips (Rodney) of Shell Knob, Missouri, Debby Driskill (Mickey) of Moore, Oklahoma, and Sandy Walker (Charlie) of Lynn Haven, Florida; 26 grandchildren; 69 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Hood, of Carthage, Missouri; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Carl Junction Cemetery with Matthew Cawyer officiating. The family will receive visitation from 6-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the New Providence Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home, Webb City, Missouri.
