Michael Mordica

Michael Dean Mordica 68, of Cherokee, KS died 12:05am Sunday April 4, 2021 at his home following an illness. Mike was born March 4, 1953 in Pittsburg, KS the son of Gerald G. and Virginia I. (Trosch) Mordica. 

He was a lifelong resident of the area and a graduate of Southeast High School. He later attended the University of Arkansas on a track scholarship. 

Mike married Peggy J. Shepard in Parsons, KS; they later divorced. Mike worked as a pipefitter/welder for U.A. Local 441 for many years retiring in 2006. He was a member of the union for 47 years and served as business manager for local #664.








Mike growing up was a member of the Methodist Church in Cherokee, KS and later attended the Nazarene Church in Pittsburg, KS. Mike was known as a great athlete; enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, fishing including peacock bass fishing in Brazil and Venezuela, a member of numerous Bass Clubs and was a Kansas State qualifier for the National Bass Masters Tournament in Jackson, Mississippi; member of the Cherokee Gun Club; was known as a great singer taking part in many funerals and weddings over the years.

Survivors include Peggy Mordica who provided for his care; sons Nathan Mordica and wife Miranda of Joplin, MO, Bryan Mordica of McCune, KS, Jasan Mordica of McCune, KS; sisters Geri Lynn Cornell and husband Randy of Arcadia, KS and Kristy Terlip and husband Chris of Frontenac, KS; grandchildren Jackson Mordica, Owen Mordica, Luke Mordica, Landon Mordica, Aralynn Tun and Marley Mordica; 3 nephews Douglas Jameson of Lawrence, KS, Kaleb Terlip of Frontenac, KS and Corbin Terlip of Overland Park, KS.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Services will be 10:00am Wednesday April 7, 2021 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg, KS with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow at the Cherokee Cemetery in Cherokee, KS. Informal visitation will be from 3-8:00pm Tuesday April 6, 2021 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral in Pittsburg, KS. Family will not be present for visitation.

In lieu of flowers the family asks expressions of sympathy to be in the form of memorials to the Cherokee Gun Club. Friends may drop off or mail memorials to the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home 522 S.
