(From White Funeral Home)Wayne Clayton, age 82, of Purdy, Missouri, passed away on Friday, April 2, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Cassville. Mr. Clayton, son of Lloyd and Rosie (Childress) Clayton, was born on July 12, 1938, on the family farm in Purdy.
He served his country proudly in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1962.
On November 1, 1973, he was united in marriage to Mary Jane Reagan in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. Wayne was a well-known logger in the area, making several lasting friendships throughout the years.
Music was particularly important to Wayne and he enjoyed playing several various musical instruments such as the guitar, piano, harmonica, banjo and mandolin. His family was always his number one priority and will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his wife Mary Jane Clayton, of Purdy; seven daughters, Trish Bingham and her husband Ken, of Bentonville, Arkansas, Sherri Sehrbrock and her husband Richard, of Purdy, Tracie Harp, of Clarksville, Tennessee, Christie Findley and her husband Bryan, of Holts Summit, Lisa Clayton and her husband Jay R. Vega, of Mt. Vernon, Rosa Katam and her husband Joshua, of Springfield, and Holly Underwood and her husband Andrew, of Mt. Vernon; nineteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; two brothers remaining, J.D. Johnson, of Joplin and Jerry Clayton, of Youngstown, Florida; two sisters remaining, Linda Day and Janie Roberts, both of Corinth, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by one son, Vincent Wayne Clayton; one daughter, Brenda Irene Windham; two brothers, Cecil Clayton and Marvin Clayton; and three sisters, Carolyn Dorsey, Marcine Shockley, and Ruby Holland.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at the White Funeral Home and Crematory in Cassville, with Chaplin Jack Betts officiating; burial to follow with full military honors at Arnhart Cemetery in Purdy.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.
Service arrangements are under the direction of the White Funeral Home and Crematory, Cassville, Missouri.
