JoAnn Burris

JoAnn Burris, age 70, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away April 3, 2024, at her home with her daughter and son by her side.

She was born March 5, 1954, in West Columbia, Texas, to Billy Ray and Ruby (Koser) Ashley.

She married Roger C. Burris on May 18, 1973, in Crossett, Arkansas. From that day, JoAnn lovingly served her family as an excellent homemaker. She was skilled in gardening and canning, cooking and baking. 








She enjoyed hosting family and friends at her dinner table. She loved to travel with Roger, taking road trips all over the United States. 

She was passionate about her sewing hobbies, including embroidery and quilting. She was a devoted wife, providing excellent personal nursing care for her husband during his illness and until his passing. She was a member of Joplin Peace, a United Pentecostal Church.

JoAnn is survived by one daughter, Angela Buchanan (Angie) and husband Frank Buchanan II of Joplin, Missouri; one son, Roger Burris Jr. (Rod) and wife Diane of Lamar, Missouri; mother Ruby
Ashley of Dermott, Arkansas; three brothers, Billy Ray Ashley and wife Kathy of Terrell, Texas;
Ronnie Ashley and wife Lisa of Clarksville, Arkansas; Jimmy Ashley of Collins, Arkansas; three
grandchildren, Makenzie Burris, Franklin Buchanan III, and Ashley Buchanan; three great-
grandchildren; “adopted” family, Steve Shumaker and wife Melissa, children Addison (Addie),
Avery, and Asher of Joplin, Missouri; and numerous extended family and friends.








JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband, Roger C. Burris and her father, Billy Ray Ashley.

Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Monday, April 8, 2024, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel
with Pastor Frank Buchanan II officiating. Burial will follow at the Carl Junction Cemetery. The
family will receive friends at 10:00 am on Monday prior to the service.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory of Joplin, Missouri.
