Nancy Hunt

Nancy Jane Hunt, age 75, of Baxter Springs, passed away Friday, January 3, 2025 surrounded by family. She was known for her kindness, dedication to her family, and her unwavering support for those around her. Nancy always put a smile on everyone’s face with her ornery and affectionate personality.

She was born December 3, 1949, in Joplin, MO, to John Oliver Baggerly and Edith Virginia (Morgan) Baggerly.







Nancy graduated from Joplin High School in December 1967 and went on to attend Missouri Southern State College, where she graduated with a degree in Business in 1972. During her time at Southern, Nancy was honored with the Spencer F. Bartlett Award for her community involvement and positive attitude.

After college, Nancy worked for Lowell Dickerson at Joplin Auto Supply, who later introduced her to Robert Dale Hunt. Nancy was united in marriage to Robert on February 13, 1976, and together they built their home in Baxter Springs.

Nancy was a devoted homemaker who took great pride in caring for her family. She ran an in-home daycare while her children were young and then worked as a teller at American Bank in Baxter Springs until her retirement in 1996.

Throughout her life, Nancy was actively involved in her community. She volunteered for over twenty years with the Ozark Area Girl Scout Council, serving as a leader, Service Unit Manager, and in various other leadership roles.

Nancy found joy in spending time with her family and friends. Her warmth and laughter will be fondly remembered by all who knew her. A woman of faith, she believed in the goodness of people and the importance of family. Nancy was a member of the First Baptist Church in Baxter Springs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and older sister, Sharon Wideman.








Nancy is survived by her daughter, Beth Hunt; son, John Hunt and wife Amber; eight grandchildren, MacKenzie, Aryian, Kyren, Avrey, Colton, Carroline, Franklin, and Juliette; two great-grandchildren, Ivy and Theodore, all of Baxter Springs, KS; sisters, Darlene Mahan of Joplin, Marlene Gooch of Baxter Springs; and sister-in-law, Elizabeth Edmondson of Baxter Springs.

Services will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, January 8, 2025 at Derfelt's Chapel in Baxter Springs, with her brother-in-law, Dan Mahan, officiating. Burial will follow at the Baxter Springs Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nancy’s memory to the Baxter Springs Fire Auxiliary, in care of the funeral home.
