Dorothy L. Pierce, 82, of Pittsburg, passed away at 9:58 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2015 at Via Christi Hospital.
She was born September 19, 1932 at Walnut, Kansas, to Raymond and Louise (McClelland) Coester. She graduated from Walnut High School in 1950. On August 16, 1964, she was united in marriage to George Pierce in the First United Methodist Church at Girard, Kansas. Mrs. Pierce worked for Police Brothers grocery store in Girard. Later she worked for ACE Forms for seventeen and a half years and then for PITSCO for 5 years. She was of Methodist faith.
Survivors include her husband, George Pierce of the home; a son, Ronald Pierce of the home; a daughter, Tammy Clothier and her husband, Fred of Pittsburg; two brothers, Don Coester and his wife, Betty Ann of Chanute, Kansas and Jim Coester and his wife, Cindy of Brazilton, Kansas; three sisters, Betty Best of Girard, Jo Ann Workman and her husband, Don of Pittsburg, and Karen Oesch and her husband, Cliff of Phoenix, Arizona; four grandchildren, Ayla Pierce and Patrick Johnson, both of Joplin, and Quinton and Gabriel Clothier, both of Pittsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Vera Willey and Vida Toney and a brother, Kenneth Coester.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday (Feb. 18) at the Brenner Mortuary with Pastor James Fryer officiating. Burial will follow in the Crocker Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Brenner Mortuary in Pittsburg. Friends may call after 2 p.m today at the funeral home.
