Orville Quentin Woods, beloved husband, father, and “Gramps” to his five grandchildren and 6 great- grandchildren, entered into the presence of his Lord and Savior on Tuesday morning, February 10, 2015. “Quentin,” as he was known by his family and friends, was born in Burley, Idaho on February 21, 1919 to Cecil Woods and Ethel Dobbs Woods. The family moved to Anderson, Missouri, when Quentin was a few months old. He had two brothers, James Woods of Muskogee, OK, and Robert Woods (deceased) of Anderson. Quentin was a graduate of Anderson High School, Class of 1937. His first job out of high school was with the Tatum Motor Company in Anderson. His employments as a sales representative for the Mopar Parts Division of the Chrysler Corporation included Jardon-Brelsford Motor Company of Joplin, Arkamo Parts Inc. in Springfield, and 4-State Motor Parts of Tulsa from which he retired in 1982.
Quentin enlisted in the US Navy in March of 1942. After basic training, he learned to operate and maintain the arresting gear used on aircraft carriers. In 1943, he was assigned to the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Corregidor, which was involved in four major campaigns in the Pacific Theater, and earned the rank of Flight Deck Chief. He was discharged from the Navy on November 30, 1945.
He married Wilma Jean Hardy of Southwest City, MO, on September 25, 1949. They spent 65 wonderful years together and raised two daughters. He was a member of Forest Park Baptist Church for 65 years where he served as a Sunday School teacher. After losing their home in the May 2011 tornado, Quentin and Wilma moved to Fort Worth, TX to be close to their daughter, Nancy, and lived first at Legacy Senior Residences, then Trinity-Courtyard Retirement Community.
Quentin Woods was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert. He is survived by his wife Wilma,
his daughter Nancy Muskrat & husband Bruce of Fort Worth, his daughter Judy Tumlinson & husband Chuck of Anaheim, California, and brother, James Woods, of Muskogee, OK.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Daniel Muskrat & wife Sara of Mount Pleasant, TX, Andy Muskrat & wife Heather of Irving, TX, Amy Muskrat Bihl and husband Danny of Hewitt, TX, Christa Tumlinson of Oakland, CA, and Mark Tumlinson of Anaheim, CA, and his six great-grandchildren, Luke, Ben & Claire Muskrat, Caleb Bihl, and Jacob & Braeden Muskrat.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 16, 2015 in the Chapel of Forest Park Baptist Church in Joplin, MO. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. Pastor John Swadley and Dr. William A. “Budd” Smith of Fort Worth, TX, will officiate.
A visitation will be held Monday at the church chapel from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Mission Joplin.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
