Margaret Hennessy

Margaret Mary Ann Hennessy, 83, of Carthage Missouri, passed on Monday, February 9, 2015, in her home surrounded by her husband and her children. She was born on September 22, 1931, in La Porte, Indiana, to Richard W. Pruden and Loretta Foldenauer.  She was one of nine children, grew up in La Porte and spent free time with friends and siblings at Lake Michigan. Margaret attended La Porte High School, graduating in 1949, where she was a drum majorette as well as homecoming queen.  After high school, she attended South Bend Business College.  After college, she moved to Denver with some friends, and there met John Hennessy while he was based there in the Air Force.  They were married on December 26, 1955 and moved to Columbia, Missouri, while John attended the University of Missouri.  In 1962, they settled down in Poplar Bluff, Missouri, raised a family and lived there 40 years.  While raising her 4 children, Margaret was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and with a few friends started a catering business that they ran for several years.  Margaret was an avid golfer and had 4 hole in ones.  She was active in women’s golf associations and played in tournaments throughout Missouri.  She enjoyed playing nice golf courses including many in Ireland and Pebble Beach.  Margaret cherished time with her children, grand-children and great grand-children and was often traveling from one to the next to spend time with them. 

Margaret is survived by her spouse John Hennessy, children John G. (Buck) Hennessy and his wife Cathy of Jefferson City, MO, Ann Johnson and husband David of Forney, TX, Tim Hennessy and wife Becky of Columbia, MO, Shannon Peterson and husband Mark, of Carthage, MO. Eight grandchildren, Mike Miller (Kristin) of Taos, MO. Travis Hennessy of Jefferson City, MO, Shannon Elder (Jordan) and Lauren Johnson of Forney, TX, Adam Peterson of Springfield, MO, Derek and Allison Peterson of Carthage, MO, Connor Hennessy of Columbia, MO. Five great-grand children, Ben and Ethan Miller, Luke and Grace Ann Elder, and Leo Shively. One brother Jim Pruden of LaPorte, IN, and one sister Dorothy Riley of Indianapolis, IN. In addition to numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceeded in death by her parents, three sisters, Mary Levandoski, Patricia Weaver and Joan  Ehrgott. Three brothers, Richard Pruden, John Pruden and Tom Pruden.

Visitation/Rosary was held Knell Mortuary, Carthage MO on Thursday Feb 12, 2015 at 6 p.m. Funeral Mass was held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Carthage MO on Friday Feb 13, 2015 at 10:00 AM.
