Mike Switzer

Donald Michael “Mike” Switzer, age 71 of Joplin, passed away Friday, February 20, 2015 at his home. 

Born September 1, 1943 in Superior, NE, he was the son of the late Donald F. and Mollie L. Johnson Switzer and graduated from Superior High School in 1961. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1961-1964. Mike worked at Safeway Cheese from 1973 until their closure in 1993. He retired from Snak-Atak Convenience Stores in 2009. He was a member of Christ’s Community United Methodist Church. Mike was an avid Chiefs, Royals and K-State Wildcats fan. He also enjoyed working in the yard and garden. He loved animals and little children. 

On April 9, 1993, he married the love of his life, Sandra Farmer. She survives. Additional survivors include a daughter, Kimberly of Norman, OK; two sons, Brian Switzer and wife Brandee, Jason Farmer; four sisters, Karen Cox and husband Glen, Susan Hodges and husband Dennis, Peggy Barton and husband Jim, Cindy Carver; his mother-in-law, Earline Dickson; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, whom he loved dearly. 

Funeral services with military honors will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Parker Chapel, after which, the family will receive friends. Private interment will be in Osborne Memorial Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, in care of Parker Mortuary.
