James Maurice Hyder, Jr. age, 75 of Joplin, Missouri passed away Friday, February 13, 2015 at Joplin Health and Rehabilitation Center following an extended illness.
James was born December 3, 1939 to the late James M. Hyder, Sr. and Virginia Norris Hyder in Kansas City, Missouri. He moved to Joplin in 1954, and later became a charter employee of The Sheltered Workshop in Joplin where he worked for over 20 years, holding many positions while there. James was a former member of Forest Park Baptist Church, and was recently a member of Empire Baptist Church in Joplin.
Jimmy was courageous and cheerful throughout his life, even as he dealt with cerebral palsy and then paralysis due to a stroke after surviving the tornado. Through it all he kept his sense of humor, and loved Jesus with all his heart.
Surviving Jimmy are two sisters, Marsha McChan of Joplin, Michele Newell and husband Pinkney of Kansas City, MO; brother, Phillip N. Hyder and wife Delores of Sutherland, Virginia; many nieces, nephews and extended family that will miss James as well.
Services are planned for Saturday, February 21, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin.
The family will receive friends on Friday from 7:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Parker Mortuary.
