Joe Quay

Joseph Thomas Quay III, of Carthage, Missouri, passed away Wednesday morning, January 5, 2022, at his home with family by his side at the age of 66. 

Joe was born August 13, 1955, in Tulsa, Oklahoma to Joseph Thomas Quay, Jr. and Kathryn Estelle (Howard) Quay. He graduated from Bishop Kelley High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1973. Joe then earned his bachelor’s degree from Creighton University and his doctorate from Oklahoma State College of Osteopathic Medicine. 








Joe married the love of his life, Damonda Clay, on June 21, 1980, at Calvary Baptist Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He worked as an emergency room doctor at Des Moines General Trauma Center before coming to McCune Brooks Hospital in Carthage. He was a member of the NRA and First Baptist Church, Carthage. Joe loved hunting and fishing, listening to music, working with his tractors, and telling people about Jesus. But he was happiest when spending time with his family, his grandchildren in particular.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Damonda Quay; a son, Daniel Quay (Bethany); a daughter, Christina Evans (Jake); four grandchildren, Joseph Evans, Natalie Evans, Nicholas Evans, and Clara Quay, with a grandchild, A.J. Quay, on the way; parents, Joseph Quay, Jr. and Kathryn Quay; two brothers, James Quay and Jeff Quay; an uncle, Steve Quay (Kathy); an aunt, Ellen Farguson; and many extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, John Quay.

Memorial services will be held 1:30 pm, Saturday, January 15, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Carthage. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to Gideons International or American Diabetes Association in care of Knell Mortuary.
