Siblings include 4 sisters Verla Gilmore (Glen), Donna Tersinar (Johnny), Linda Stevens (Dan), Ilene McGruire (Milford) and one brother, Bill Hayden (Kathy). She had many nieces and nephews who adored her.

Nancy resided in Grenola, KS with her family until 1948 when they moved to Pittsburg, KS. Nancy attended elementary school in a rural school and graduated from Crawford Community High School in Cherokee, KS. After graduation she worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone company in Pittsburg, KS

She married Charles Lapping and gave birth to two children Kevin Wayne and Lisa Gayle, whom she loved with all her heart. Later they divorced. He preceded her in death.

Nancy was a stay-at-home mom until the children were grown and then she worked other jobs (MidCon and a bank in Webb City), making lifelong friends wherever she worked.

Later she married Charles Souder and he preceded her in death.

This is who she was to those who knew her:

When she was born, “she was the prettiest baby ever because she had curly hair. Everyone always fell in love with her because she was always happy and grinning”. At a very young age she was nicknamed “a little firecracker” not only because she was born on the 4th of July but because that was her personality. If her sarcasm and snarkiness couldn’t make you smile, you were probably taking yourself too seriously. She could take it as well as dish it out. She was firm and stubborn at times which only confirmed her resolve and genuineness. We remember her also as having a beautiful singing voice, and giving the best hugs EVER, she loved unconditionally, always fun to be around, everyone loved her and wanted to be around her, she was always thinking of others and made you feel included.

Most importantly, she believed the Bible, put her faith, hope and trust in Jesus Christ for His atoning death for her, and looked forward to being with her Savior. She shared her love for her Savior to those around her and spoke often of how God had blessed her in so many ways, one of which was her wonderful family.

Her father was always writing poetry and here is one he wrote about Nancy.

“A way back in the distant past when I was twenty seven
God sent to us a little girl a package straight from heaven
She took up residence in our home on the fourth day of July
She kept her Daddy a hopping and that ain’t no lie
She grew up to be a happy kid like you have never seen
She either laughed or cried you bet there was no inbetween
She is getting a little older now and her hair is slightly gray
I love her now as I did then and remember her when I pray” Claude W Hayden
