(From Ulmer Funeral Home)John David Hartley, 88, of Carthage, Missouri passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the Gran Villas of Pittsburg, Kansas. John was born on January 3, 1934 in Carthage to Jesse Hartley and Doris “Shirkey” Hartley.
He was a lifetime Carthage resident who grew up working on the family dairy farm and attended and graduated from the Carthage High School Class of 1952.
John served in the Army, worked at Brown Oil Company, and then he worked as a machinist for Sperry Vickers where he retired. After retiring John worked as a custodian for the R-9 school district for approximately 12 years.
John was united in marriage to Merlene Gilliam on April 24, 1959 in Webb City, Missouri; she preceded him in death on February 13, 2011.
He is survived by one daughter Terri Drenick (John) of Pittsburg, Kansas; one brother Richard Hartley of Carthage; one grandson Shane Drenick; one granddaughter Haley Markley; and two Aubree Markley and Nash Markley.
John is preceded in death by his wife Merlene; his parents Jesse and Doris Hartley; two brothers Don Hartley and Bill Hartley; and two sisters Dorothy Carter and Joan Tronsgard.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel in Carthage, Missouri. A visitation will be held from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service. The burial will be at Park Cemetery following the service.
