(From Parker Mortuary)Mary Lou Stoffel, 93, of Joplin passed away Wednesday, January 19, 2022.
Mary Lou was born on May 7, 1928, in La Crosse, KS, to Fred and Mary Biesemeyer.
In 1952, she married Donald Stoffel, a widower with an 8-year-old child named Carol.
Mary Lou and Donald moved around a lot, and she took college classes wherever they lived. While living in Topeka, KS, Mary Lou was an accountant for the Topeka Kansas Board of Education. She later moved to Jefferson City, where she worked as an accountant for the State of Missouri Board of Education. She also lived many years in Austin, TX, where Donald passed away in 1980. Mary Lou moved to Springdale, AR, to be closer to her grandchildren. While in Springdale, she volunteered at the local hospital and served as president of the auxiliary. She later moved to Joplin, MO, where she volunteered at Freeman Hospital. She was a member of Joplin First United Methodist Church and was involved in several clubs. She loved spending time with her friends and grandchildren. Her hobbies included collecting clowns, roadrunners, and eye cups.
Mary Lou is survived by her daughter, Carol Robinson, her grandchildren, Kimberly Tappana and Jeffrey Staggs, and numerous great-grandchildren.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
