(From Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home)Melvin LeRoy Nixon, age 79, of La Russell, Missouri, passed away at 3:18 p.m. on Friday, January 28, 2022, at Cox Hospital in Branson, Missouri. He was born October 14, 1942, in Carthage, Missouri, the son of the late Winston and Geraldine (LaFon) Nixon.
Melvin grew up in the Carthage, area and was a 1960 graduate of Golden City High School and attended Southwest Missouri State in Springfield, Missouri. He was a route salesman for Missouri Products in Springfield for 33 years and retired from Schreiber Foods in Mt. Vernon, after 13 years. He made many good friends at both places over the years.
He loved fishing and hunting with family on their farm outside of Mt. Vernon. His love of hunting and fishing was passed down to his daughter, Teresa, and his grandson, Derek. He will be greatly missed by all.
He married the love of his life, Marilyn Colley on November 7, 1964, at the Zion Evangelical Church in Mt. Vernon. They had two daughters, Pam and Teresa.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 57 years, Marilyn; two daughters, Pam Compton (Duane) of Republic, Missouri and Teresa Nixon (Karen Snider) of Cape Fair, Missouri; one grandson, Derek Compton (Darlene) and two great-granddaughters, Addilynn and Lainey, all of Clever, Missouri; one brother, Leonard Nixon (Elaine) and their son, Jeff Nixon, all of Springfield, Missouri; one sister, Vivian Honicult (Bob) and their son, John Nixon, all of Springfield and several cousins, friends, and other family members.
A visitation will be held from 11:00-12:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 5, 2022, at the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, with a graveside service to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Fasken Cemetery northeast of Carthage. Online condolences may be shared at www.FossettMosherFuneralHome.com.
