(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Martha Louise Brooks, age 91, Columbus, Kansas, more recently Galena, Kansas, passed away Sunday, January 16, 2022 at the Galena Nursing Center.
She was born October 15, 1930, to rural Columbus, Kansas, to the late Ralph Gibson and Clara Johnson Gibson.
Louise married Lloyd Atkinson in 1949. He passed away in 1959. Then in 1965, she married Bill Brooks. He preceded her in death in 1985.
Louise worked as a clerk in the district court, grocery clerk, and owned and operated her own restaurant. She also loved to crochet & sing.
In addition to her parents, and husbands, she was preceded in death by, one brother, Ed Gibson; two sisters, Mona Claire Price and Mildred Carter.
Survivors include five sons, Neil Atkinson and wife Cari, Juneau, AK, Bob Atkinson, Augusta, KS, Galen Atkinson and wife Sue, Rosehill, KS, Alvin Atkinson and wife Kate, Tulsa, OK, Randy Brooks and wife, Kristi, Joplin, MO; two sisters, Ruth Hartley, Baxter Springs, KS, and Helen Bohr, Independence, KS; thirteen grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; and two great-great granddaughters.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 21, 2022, at the 1st United Methodist Church in Columbus, KS. The Family will receive friends Thursday January 20, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow in Park Cemetery, Columbus, KS.
