George F. Boyd, Jr., 84, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Sunday evening, January 23, 2022, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. George was born July 4, 1937, in Kansas City, Missouri, the son of George F. Boyd, Sr. and Martha H. (Hefling) Boyd.
He was a 1955 graduate of Phoenix Central High School, then later received his bachelor's degree in business administration from William Jewel College.
George was owner/operator of Boyd Truck Line in Carthage for 25 years. He was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Carthage, Knights of Columbus, Carthage, and Rotary Club, Carthage. George loved to volunteer at Mercy Hospital in Carthage and was a choir director for St. Peter’s in Joplin.
Survivors include two daughters, Jacque Boyd, Manistee, Michigan, and Jenny Simmons (Jason), Golden City, Missouri; grandchildren, Cameron Simmons and Joshua Simmons (Kristi); and a cousin who he considered a sister, Shirley Drofman.
He was preceded in death by his father, George F. Boyd, Sr., and his mother, Martha H. Brown.
Funeral mass will be held 11 am, Wednesday, January 26, 2022, at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Joplin, Missouri. Rosary will be held 6 pm, Tuesday, January 25, 2022, at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, with the family receiving friends after from 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm. Burial will be held 2 pm, Thursday, January 27, 2022, at Valley Township Cemetery, Haven, Kansas.
