(From Parker Mortuary)Charles R. “Charlie” Bird, age 86, passed away Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at Solace House of the Ozarks.
Charlie was born January 20, 1936 to the union of the late Claud and Leta (Howe) Bird. He moved to Joplin in 1958, working as a Sales Representative for Butler Paper, where he received many awards and national recognition for his success there.
During his tenure in the paper business he also served on the Board of Directors of the Franklin Technical Printing Department. He retired in 1995.
Charlie built and owned several apartment complexes in Joplin, and was a founding member of the Joplin Rental Housing Association. He also owned many restaurants and bars, including Champs Pub & Grill and The Silverado Dance Club. He was a part of many organizations, including the Tri-State Craftsman’s Club of Printing, and Joplin Elks Lodge #501.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Bird.
Charlie is survived by his two children, David Wayne Bird and wife Carol of Carl Junction, and Stacey Lynn Bird, of Joplin; two grandchildren, Natalie Bird and Kristopher Bird, both of Carl Junction; two sisters, Ruth Murie of Kansas City and Hellen Bird; and a nephew, Todd Jackson.
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, February 4th, at Fat & Happy, 5806 N. Main Street Road, Joplin from 5:00-7:00.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Solace House of the Ozarks. They also wanted to personally thank everyone at Solace House for their gentle care over Charlie.
Cremation arrangements are under the special care and direction of Parker Mortuary.
