David was born on September 19, 1937, to D.W. and Bessie (Collins) Sheat in Lamar, Missouri. He grew up on the farm, and his lifelong love of sports and competition can be traced back to his high school years playing football.
He married his high school sweetheart, Joan (Faurot), on June 3, 1956, celebrating 65 years of marriage this past summer.
After working for Lawn Boy in Lamar and in several Kansas City area factories, he returned to the farm, where David and Joan eventually purchased both of their childhood farms.
Over the years, he built a large farming operation, called Lazy K Farms, and received Century Farm distinction. David was active in the farming community, sponsoring MU wheat plots and wheat tours for farmers from all around the area. You never stayed a stranger long around David, as he enjoyed talking and chatting with everyone he met!
David was an active member and deacon at Grace Place for more than 40 years. A steadfast supporter of Upward Basketball, he rejoiced in bringing testimonies of God’s love to all of those in the stands. Whether coaching teams or staying up late to play cards and dominoes, he delighted in his large family and celebrated a legacy of love and service through them. He spoke often about how excited he was to see his grandkids and great-grandkids love and serve Jesus. Above all, David loved his Lord and his greatest desire was for others to love Him as well.
