Pete Rushing

Hilman “Pete” Kenneth Rushing, 90, of Carthage, Missouri passed away on Sunday, January 23, 2022 at Carthage Health and Rehab following a short illness. He was born August 17, 1931 to Sidney S. Rushing and Nancy Clementine Henson in Jasper, Alabama.

Pete was united in marriage to Wanda June Sooter, of Sarcoxie, Missouri, on August 24, 1952 in Coffeeville, Kansas. He and Wanda were in the evangelistic ministry with the Church of the Nazarene for many years. Pete was an avid witness for Jesus.







Pete moved to the Sarcoxie/Carthage area in 1989 from Venice, Florida. He was an auto mechanic.

 Pete, with his son, Kenneth “Ken” Rushing, owned and operated Four States Surveillance. They went on to open Rushing Tire and Auto in Sarcoxie, Missouri.

Pete was a Korean War Veteran stationed in Okinawa, Japan from 1950 to 1952. A corporal and an atrocities photographer with photos in Stars and Stripes Magazine.

Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Nancy Rushing; his wife, Wanda June Rushing; and his son, Kenneth Rushing.

Pete is survived by:

Daughter, Rowena (Philip) Farley of Carthage, Missouri; two grandchildren, John Farley, II of York, Pennsylvania and Rebekah “Farley” Bienhoff (Nate) of Roswell, New Mexico; and five great grandchildren, John Trey, III, Kaylee, Ellie, Drew, and Hannah (Scott), and one great-great-grandchild Andy.

Daughter, Rhonda June Seaton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Heather Seaton of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandson, Steven Jacob (Christy) Seaton; four grandchildren, Piper, Violet, Silas and Finnigan of St. Joseph, Missouri.

Daughter-in-law, Kathy Rushing; two children, Kelly Rushing and Wesley Pennington; three grandchildren, Ethan Rushing of Joplin, Missouri, Karter (Brooks) Rushing of Sarcoxie, Missouri, and Kyler (Kandy) Rushing of Parsons, Kansas; three great grandchildren, Otto, Hooper, and Abel Rushing, all of Parsons, Kansas.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 29, 2022 at First Church of the Nazarene in Carthage, Missouri. Pastor John Farley will officiate. Inurnment will be private at Emmanuel Cemetery in Carthage, Missouri.
