Melissa Nichols

Melissa C. Nichols, 54, of Pittsburg, died at 10:00 p.m., Monday, August 5, 2024, in Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

Melissa was born August 5, 1970 in Harrison, Arkansas. Her father was Carson D. Rivett and she was raised by her grandmother, Blanche Rivett.

She grew up and attended schools in Arkansas before moving to Kansas in 1989.








She married Chris Mitchell and he survives of the home.

She attended Labette Community College in Parsons and received her degree in Respiratory Therapy.

Melissa worked at various jobs in the area and in 2003 she worked as the catering coordinator at Pittsburg State University, working for Sodexo and Aladdin. She was still working at the time of her death.

Melissa enjoyed her family, attending concerts, camping, traveling, cooking, and watching horror movies.

Survivors, in addition to her husband, Chris, are her son, Richard Owen Nichols Jr. of Webb City, Missouri, her stepsons, Alec Christopher Mitchell of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Gavin Payne of Rogers, Arkansas. Her daughters, Elizabeth Williams of Pittsburg and Killashandra Nichols of Pittsburg. Six grandchildren. Her brothers, Michael Shawn Price of Springdale, Arkansas, Jason Rivett of Springdale, Jonathan Rivett of Springdale, and William Patrick Rivett of Avoca, Arkansas.








Melissa was preceded in death by her brothers David Scott Bertchey and David Paul Rivett.

Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2024 at the Farlington Cemetery with Pastor Rick Prideaux officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.

Celebration of Life services will be held at a later date.

Memorials are suggested to the SEK Humane Society and these may be left at the service or the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home, 518 W St. John, Box 258, Girard, 66743.
