David VanKirk

David George VanKirk, age 70, of Liberal, Missouri passed away April 07, 2019, at University Of Kansas Health System, Kansas City, Kansas.

David was born April 1, 1949 in Liberal to Arthur McClellan and Marjorie Maxine (Coffey) VanKirk. David served his county in the United States Army and was commended for heroic acts of valor in combat. He was awarded The Bronze Star Medal with the "V" Device and the Purple Heart Medal along with a number of other commendations.

David wore many hats during his years in the work force and retired as the Senior Officer for the Liberal Police Department after a 30 year long career. David was a member of the Christian Church of Liberal and had been a member of the American Legion and VFW for over 30 years. Above all, David was a devoted father, Liberal brother and friend.








Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer VanKirk and a son, Michael VanKirk, both of Liberal, Missouri; siblings, Beverly Fleharty, Fort Scott, Kansas, Jean Taylor, Pittsburg, Kansas, Judy (Bill) McManis, Pittsburg, Kansas, Jimmy (Julia) VanKirk, Mulberry, Kansas, Donna Cobler, Liberal, Missouri, and Dixie Hayes, Owasso, Oklahoma; and one granddaughter, Winter Rose Kansas City, Kansas.

Preceding him in death were his parents, two brothers, Jack VanKirk and Bob VanKirk, three sisters, Bonnie VanKirk, Rebecca VanKirk, and Dorthy VanKirk.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2019 at the Christian Church of Liberal, Missouri.

Services will be 2:00 pm , Tuesday, April 16, 2019 also at the Christian Church.

Contributions are suggested to Lymphoma Research Foundation in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
