Walter Charles Cody, age 79, of Lamar, Missouri passed away unexpectedly, April 21, 2019, in Collins, MO while on a camping trip .
Walter was born October 7, 1939 in Council Bluffs, IA to Edward Lyle Cody and Bessie Cogley. He graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, IA in the class of 1957. Walter farmed in Hancock, IA and Walnut, IA for several years prior to moving to Lamar in 1984 where he purchased the Lamar Blue Top Inn and operated it for several years. He had also worked at Lamarti's, Tractors, and TATS as a driver for many years.
On June 28, 2003, Walter married Joyce Ann Johnson and she preceded him in death, December 17, 2008. He was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church, had served as a board member of the Barton County Senior Center, was a past member of Lamar Rotary, and received the Chamber Of Commerce Volunteer Of The Year.
Walter is survived by a son, Todd Cody, Grandview, Missouri; two daughters, Cindy (Stan) Clements, Tampa, Florida and Cathy Lane, Lamar, Missouri; six grandchildren, Chelsea Clements, Carmen (Dallas) Hollister, Dillon Clements, Cody Rawlings, Keirstin Cody, and Brett Cody; four great-grandchildren, Kaysen Garfield, Brielle Cody, Jaxon Hollister, and Ryker Crim. Additional survivors include Joyce Cody's three sons and two daughters and he was know as "Papa Walt" to Joyce's grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Preceding in death were his parents, his wife Joyce, three brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 11:00 am, April 25, 2019 at Daniel Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 pm Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at the funeral home.
