Pamela K. Sells, age 70, of Joplin, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at Freeman Hospital, following an illness.
Pam was born on July 31, 1948 in Neosho, Mo. the daughter of the late Frank and Wilma McDaniel of Diamond, Mo. Pam was a lifelong educator and had a passion for not only learning but more importantly sharing that knowledge with others. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree from MSSU, a Master’s Degree from Missouri State University, a Specialist’s Degree from PSU, Professional Development in Superintendency and Principalship from Harvard Graduate School of Education, and a Doctorate Degree from Missouri University Columbia. Pam’s career included elementary teacher at Seneca, Mo. 70-71, Pittsburg, Ks 71-72, Duquesne 73-82. She became the Assistant Principal at Duquesne Elementary, 82-83 and then Principal of Royal Heights Elementary 83-90. While attending MU she was an Education Consultant at the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. She served as the Superintendent of the Purdy, Mo. 94-96, Diamond, Mo. 96-99, and Maries County, Mo.99-05. Pam also was an instructor at Williams Woods University 05-06 and Linn State Technical College 05-06. She concluded her career in education at Pittsburg State University as the Student Teacher Supervisor/Instructor from 2006 to Present.
Pam was a member of many organizations over the years but currently was a member of American Association of University Women, Association of Teachers-Higher Education, Kansas Reading Professionals, National Science Teachers Association, International Reading Association, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, Missouri Southern Alumni Association, Missouri State University Alumni, University of Missouri-Columbia Alumni, Phi Delta Kappa, and PSU Faculty Association. Pam enjoyed gardening, historical landmarks, preserving the folklore of not only Native Americans but all cultures.
Pamela and Patrick Sells recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, he survives. She is also survived by a son, Jason Sells and wife April, and Donavan, Carthage, Mo.; a daughter, Lisa Perry and husband Justin, Edwardsville, Il.; a sister, Betty Barnhart and husband Harold, Chanute, Ks. She was preceded in death by one sister, Saundra Southern.
Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Jamie Lankford, Minister will officiate. Burial will be in Diamond Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Friday at the mortuary. Memorial contributions may be given to the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center at the University of Missouri Columbia in care of the mortuary.
