Verba M. Allen, age 81, Joplin, passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2019 at a local nursing center after a lengthy illness.
Verba was born June 11, 1937 in Flint, Michigan, daughter of the late Floyd E. Swadley an Eva Leatha Gifford Swadley. She moved to the Seneca area as a child where she graduated from Seneca High School before attending N.E.O. in Miami, Oklahoma, and later earned her Bachelor's Degree from Missouri Southern State University.
She was a stay at home mother for years, before she began teaching later. She was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, and was a longtime member of Northwest Baptist Church of Miami, Oklahoma, and most recently was a member at First Baptist Church of Joplin.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Leslie D. Allen; son, Brian Allen and wife Kristi of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Robert Dean Allen of Cedar Rapids, and Jon Young of Storm Lake, Iowa.
Funeral services will be Thursday, April 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church of Joplin with Pastor Jamie Tickle officiating. Interment will follow in Glen Abbey Cemetery in Miami, Oklahoma.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Verba.
